Colloquium 2009, the College Board’s annual gathering focused on the topic of financial aid and higher education policies, will take place Jan. 12–14, in Delray Beach, Fla.
With its theme, “Toward Higher Ground: New Visions, New Voices for the 21st Century,” the Colloquium will address the significant changes that lie ahead for higher education as our institutions grapple with changing demographics, the effects of globalization and shifting family expectations about the college experience. Molly Corbett Broad, president of the American Council on Education, will provide the keynote address. Broad will challenge participants to consider the value of higher education in today’s changing culture and economy.
Other speakers will address a number of topics: Jared Bernstein, economist with the Economic Policy Institute, asks “Why Do I Feel So Squeezed?” and “Crash: Is It 1929 Again?”; Jim Carroll, futurist and author, considers trends that will result in dramatic changes to campuses, classrooms and instructional design over the next 30 years; Kathy Kurz and Kevin Menk ponder “Climbing Walls or Filling Seats?”; Hiram Fitzgerald from Michigan State University joins Caroline Miller and Nancy Zimpher from the University of Cincinnati to discuss building strategic partnerships with businesses and funding partners; and Art Coleman, attorney and policy expert, reviews emerging legal issues related to their diversity initiatives.
Colloquium is hosted by the College Scholarship Service and its Financial Aid Standards and Services Advisory Committee. Attendance is limited to 200 educators from member institutions, and registration is due by Dec. 1. For more information or to register, visit www.professionals.collegeboard.com.
